Session 2: Hearing & Doing the Word
Read James 1:13-27
Memory Verse: James 1:22, “But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.”
Study Questions:
- Where does temptation come from? How have you seen this play out in your life?
- What attributes of God are described in verses 16-18? How does knowing these truths about God help us discern what is and isn’t from Him?
- Verse 19 says, “Be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger.” Which of these is most challenging for you? Why do you think that is?
- What is the difference between hearing and doing the Word? What causes you to sometimes stop at hearing only?
- According to verse 25, what leads to true blessing? Do you have a testimony, or know of someone’s testimony, where this principle was applied to real life?
- What are some warning signs that we might be deceiving ourselves spiritually?
- What is a practical step you can take to move from hearing to doing the Word?
- Call to Action: Identify an area of life where you struggle to apply God’s Word. Write it down and pray for God’s wisdom and strength to obey. Take one step toward being a doer of the Word.
